In October 2023 I went to Detroit for the first time in my life. Following an urge which had me longing for this city for about four years prior. When I arrived, this city welcomed me in a very unique way and somehow, I found a fitting answer to describe what was happening. When packing for the trip which should change so many things in my life, I re-discovered the Minolta 5000 Af of my grandmother. It was just sitting in one of the boxes I wasn't able to fully unpack – I had just moved to Berlin two weeks before my departure. I just grabbed it, thinking of my grandma who loved taking photos her whole life and would always create wonderful albums. She passed away in February 2020. It only came to me later, that I saw Detroit how she would have seen it. Through this particular viewfinder. Deciding what moments to capture.

So, I arrive, take my first steps in the city and when I get the first roll of film developed, around one week after I arrive in Detroit, I see stories and moments unfolding out of these images. I start writing them down. Picture by picture, and it just doesn't stop.

Through my stay in Detroit, I even get to share these stories at 'open mic' sessions and print a few as postcards to leave with my new friends. I also decide to keep writing after I return to Berlin. Now, with the comeback of my website, I want to share these stories with you.
